were you able to touch them to render them tangible and actually trace the rhythms in yachts i walked alone the lines would form steep hills and sudden cliffs that rise and drop off, again and again, at steep, sharp angles. the wiry funk and itchy bass move like a controlled spasm, convulsive and itchy, until the breakdown, when the nervous tension gets released in a series of cowbell clunks and a guitar solo that leaks out like a slow moving electric current. on this vinyl only collection of remixes, parisian duo get a room!, aka rove dogs and jeff masson, massage out the herk and jerk, making for a more relaxed and aurally warm take. the sound of things is far housier here and more pop, in the very best way owing to synths where there previously were none and angles newly bent and refashioned into smooth, circling cycles of disco-infused sound. and theres more from jacques renault, who contributes a remix both with and without vocals. the new york city dance music stalwart takes his time building to a plateau of perfectly paced beats and a wall of recurring dream(y) house rhythms. feels like music that fills the room, takes over your senses, and wraps you in its effervescence. - kali holloway

mowar has reached its 10th release! this release heads into a darker direction with four solid and mental techno movers. searle is a new name to join the mowar ranks, but his sounds are pure, raw with a pinch of dark ambience. the record opens with the title track mind transfer, which brings a raw oldskool 808 feel layered with hypnotic basic channel-like chords and a subtle but most effective acid line. modern love s claro intellecto on remix duty turns the track into a slow moving warehouse monster, throbbing its way to a drugged chicago-esque jacking feel yet retaining the original darkness of mind transfer. on the flipside succubus lives up to its ominous title. this track is a dark hypnotic affair with fierce kickdrums piercing through an obscure sound palette of eerie pads and deep basses. razor sharp modulated noise then invades the whole thing turning the track into a punishing dark workout. finally unauthorized brings a more edgy and experimental sound to the whole, starting of with a dubby bassline and graveyard shift pads, but once the piercing hi-hats kick in, the track shifts to straightforward almost cristian vogel-like mental techno. by the way

this 4-track ep is the first official release from new jerseys mikeq, one of the unquestioned leaders of the current vogue-house scene, and follows in the wake of a slew of self-released tunes he has dropped over the past few years. let it all out is also the second record on kingdoms fade to mind imprint, which has already received mountains of praise despite its short discography. largely built upon raw, upfront drum sounds, recycled snippets of hip-hop and r&b, and, most importantly, the ever-present >ha< (itself a repurposed masters at work sample), vogue house seemingly offered the sort of sound that tastemaking and blog-reading djs would snap up with aplomb. hell, even diplo championed the ballroom scene. yet, for whatever reason, the expected vogue-house explosion hasnt really happened. while a handful of non-ballroom producers and djs (most coming from the world of bass music) have experimented with the genre, the music essentially continues to hum along in the underground.

say hello to rest! ...the new label of herb lf (westpark unit, gush collective, draft recordings, supafeed) and phil decker (sensual touch recordings)! for a start the two labelrunners are entering their brand new stage in person as their project discoshit. after recently having taken part on the rhythm kings compilation by traveller records, next to ooft, nicholas or leonidas, they now present their debut ep strike a pose! heavy bass dub meets deep disco on the starter strike a pose! with its dubby vibe it stands for the spirit of the time. sound of... raises the pressure with a symbiosis of 80s funk and pure housesound. its getting hot,baby! breakers and househeads agree on deep chords and swinging handclaps on the dancefloor. if roy ayers would do slomo house, it might sound like biwak. crackling jazz warms up the cold club or serves up the perfect pick for a sunrise set. filtermadness and sample patchwork, in the end number one sneaks into the prime time with finesse and pop appeal. on top of that strike a pose! is presented in a stylish cover artwork by elinasolomonov(arte tv).
